RawGanics Wheatgrass
"Wheatgrass juice is the nectar of rejuvenation, the plasma of youth, the blood of all life. The elements that are missing in our body's cells - especially enzymes, vitamins, hormones and nucleic acids - can be obtained through this daily green sunlight transfusion." Viktoras Kulvinskas, Author of Survival into the Twenty First Century
When I first smelled and tasted wheatgrass juice I thought it tasted bitter and reminded me of a mowed lawn. After some time of drinking 2-4 ounces a day it has taken on a sweetness that no longer requires the apple juice chaser! I also grew to understand that the juice of the hard red winter wheat berry that most growers use does taste different from region to region and juice shop to juice shop. If you are lucky enough to have more than one location at which to get wheatgrass juice, experiment and see if you can taste a difference. The way wheatgrass is watered, tended after, and yes loved, does make a difference in its taste!
The hard red winter wheat berry is a special strain of wheat that produces high concentration of chlorophyll, antioxidants, active enzymes, vitamins, vital amino acids and other nutrients. Wheat grass is one of the most nutrient dense substances on earth.
Human consumption of wheatgrass began in the 1930's when a feed mill chemist, Charles F. Schnabel, popularized the plant. Mr. Schnabel applied for a patent for a product made from young grass shoots of wheat, barley and rye crops to be used as a dietary supplement. Thus started the green powders that you see in all health stores today. It was reported that he gave these dehydrated grasses to his family of seven with none of his children having a serious illness or a decayed tooth!
In the 1940's, Ann Wigmore started to popularize wheatgrass
as a juice. Ms Wigmore contributed the remission of her cancer
to the daily usage of wheatgrass juice. She started a study
with Dr. Earp Thomas that identified 4700 varieties of grass
in the world and concluded that all are good for human health.
With the assistance of her pets, she arrived at the conclusion
that wheatgrass was the best and most nutritious of all varieties.
Ms Wigmore started an institute in Boston called The Hippocrates
Health Institute whose mission was to teach people from around
the world about the healing properties of wheatgrass. The institute
developed a raw living foods healing program that is practiced
today by people around the world. Ms Wigmore wrote 35 books
telling about wheatgrass and living foods. I highly recommend
The Wheatgrass Book by Ann Wigmore.
Wheatgrass juice is a powerful cleanser. Depending on your tolerance, start with one ounce per day and work up to as much as two ounces twice per day. It is suggested to take on an empty stomach and not eat anything for 20-30 minutes after taking. Consume within 15 minutes of being prepared.
There is abundant research on wheatgrass juice and the health
benefits. I will leave you with this quote from Ann Wigmore.
"An analysis of blood samples drawn from two hundred Hippocrates
guests before and after only two weeks of our program gave scientific
support to our observations. Performed at the Arthur Testing
Labs, the study showed that within two weeks of following the
Hippocrates live food diet and drinking wheatgrass juice, the
blood is detoxified and the immune system strengthened. These
changes lead to more energy and an improved ability to combat
and reverse illness"
